German Euro 2020 team to be tokenised
The German Football Association announced NFT player cards for Sorare’s Global Fantasy Football
The German Football Association wishes to bring trading football cards to the digital dimension with an NFT series of the current German Euro 2020 team. The tech endeavour will see a close partnership with the fantasy football game provider Sorare, which is already running on blockchain.
18 players of the national team will be digitalized, with their NFTs being available for use in Sorare’s Global Fantasy Football. Due to the continuous menace of Covid-19 outbursts at massive events, even though the situation is rapidly improving, stadiums had not run at full capacity during the Euro Cup 2020 in 2021.
Therefore, the DFB looked for new sources in revenue, with the NFT market standing out as an innovative future driven market. Not only is the DFB adoption a viable reason to be optimistic for more use-cases of NFTs, but also possibly a sign that Germany is finally accelerating digitalization efforts, due to the imminent necessity of a functional virtual infrastructure during the pandemic.
